The Goethe Society of North America is pleased to announce discretionary grants to support scholarship on the Goethezeit. There are two categories of funding. Any GSNA member is eligible to apply.

1. Research Collaboration Fund

This fund can offer support for conferences, reading groups, workshops, or other collaborative formats.

Funding Amount: Varied, based on budget needs, up to a maximum of $8,000. We expect that the GSNA will not be the sole source of funding. To apply, please provide a one-page description of the project to be sponsored, including a list of participants, and a detailed budget (including information on additional funding sources). Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

2. Graduate Student, INDEPENDENT SCHOLARS, and Contingent Faculty Travel and Research Fund

This fund supports graduate students, independent scholars, and contingent faculty in pursuing their research on the Goethezeit, for example by traveling to archives or conferences.

Funding amount: up to $1,500. We ask that applicants also seek further sources of funding. To apply please provide a 300-word description of how this funding will contribute to your research plan and a detailed budget (including information on additional funding sources). Applications for the funding period June 1 -- November 30 are due by May 1; applications for the funding period December 1 -- May 31 are due by November 1.

We ask that the GSNA be acknowledged in any publication resulting from the supported research.

Please email queries or applications for either funding category to Claire Baldwin, Executive Secretary of the Goethe Society of North America, at cmbaldwin@colgate.edu. Funding applications will be reviewed by committee.
